PURPOSE: This assistance is to provide financial resources for immediate
needs, not covered by other available programs, to give aid and comfort to veterans as well as their spouses or un-remarried widow or widower.
APPLICATION PROCESS: Veteran service officers are equipped to assist you with any medical or benefit-related need. If your need is not already covered by another entity, you may apply for a one-time grant from About Face.
REQUIREMENTS: Eligible veterans should meet the following requirements:
- Have an immediate need, such as unexpected or emergency expenses
that would create an undue hardship - Have no more than $10,000 in cash assets
- Have verified with a VSO that no other entity can assist and received documentation of such in writing
- Be a resident of About Face’s service area, which aligns with that of the Fargo VA Medical Center and includes all of North Dakota, west-central Minnesota (Becker, Beltrami, Big Stone, Clay, Clearwater, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Wilkin, Pennington, Roseau, and Polk counties) and County in South Dakota
- Be able to provide documentation and vendor information for where the grant money would be paid; funds are NOT provided directly to the veteran but to the service provider
- Have a median income at or below the Federal Poverty Level

Please note that this is the first step to applying for a grant. Upon submitting the form, you will be contacted and asked to provide the necessary documentation, including a DD214, bank statements and proof of income, if any.
